have you ever got that nasty smell in your towels after they have been used to many times
terrible, nasty, yucky, mildew smell. I've soaked them in bleach, washed them right away, nothing gets rid of it. They smell good when they come out of the dryer, but once they get wet again, the smell starts up.
So if anyone has some good tips about this situation, let me in on the secret.

if i were judging just off those pictures, i'd definitely say rag!!

but i too, prefer the sponge.

If I just need to do a quick wipe up I prefer a rag. If I am scrubbing it's definitely a sponge. I don't think there is a way to get rid of the stinky smell in rags because both I and Eliza have that problem.

I wash out my sinks with a little Soft-Scrub on my rag before they get smelly. It totally helps keep the stink away. Not 100%, but it works the best. And you get a clean sink out of it too :)

Always rinse your rags or sponges out in cold water. Then when it's time to wash them put about 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar in the washer when the tub has water in it. This work every time. It also gets the yucky yellow arm pit stains out of white shirts.

I heard Vodka gets out mildew smells. Seriously just put it a spray bottle and spray it on the rags before washing. I heard its a good cleaner for your bathroom too. :)

Im a firm believer in Zout recommended by the Queen of Clean, but don't let your rags sit in the washer, I have a bad habit about that you know and then you have to wash them all over again and then it just defeats the purpose. But also I think towels and rags have a shelf life, if you have had those since you got married, start over, thats what I say.

I'm glad you posted about this because I too have this problem. So thanks everyone for the tips! I think I'll go buy some vodka today! Alli cracks me up! I'm sure it probably works though.

Hi Mandi! Excellent question- For myself I'm a paper towel fanatic- gets a little pricey, but I just hate rags! As for Brianna- her hubby Brian is Keith's step-brother.... I noticed she was friends with your family as well- small world hah? She is such a sweet gal- love her! And about the holidays- unfortunately we're stuck in Ohio for Christmas but I'll be in AZ the 2 weeks before Thanksgiving.... how's my timing?

Well, no one has seemed to mention that sponges carry lots of germs...so although I do to do a great scrubbing with a sponge I feel like I have to toss them quickly. I buy cheap rags often and throw them away often. But I am going to have to try that vinegar idea. That is exciting to know. Also, I am a BIG fan of antibacterial wipes I clean with those all day long, anytime, anywhere, yes an investment but sooo worth it.

yes, I just read all the comments to see if my idea was on there, and it was. But it's not said that it's white wine vineger, that's important, and I wash all my towels together and it takes the smell out of it all. I always do 1 cup vinegar, and a full cup of degergent on a full load. I learned this a while ago, and it is a life saver. Hope it works :)
